(Drama, dance, music, and a final piece that is a mixture of all three arts). Eachpiece must be three minutes long and we have around two months toimprovise, practice and perform the four pieces. We were given louverkey words to arrive as a sort of guide line for our pieces. Therewas a different set of guide lines for each art form. These consistof medicine rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, texture. Dance motif, action, relationships, dynamics, space. Drama dialogue,1characterisation, physicality, proxemics, tension. These fifteen rulesdo interconnect between the arts which I will explain during thisessay. We started our performance studies clas ses by learning more or less andexperimenting with improvisation as well as learning ab step up(a) the fiverules for each of the arts. We then began to look for the five rulesin our dance / musical comedy / fun pieces. We experimented with the fiverules in our improvised pieces and all so stony-broke down each of the rulesto find out exactly what they can cover. at present we split ourselves in to groups and began to experiment usingimprovisation for the final performance.2 In dance we sat as a groupand planned out linking moves that utilize all of our five rules, andthen put them together by improvising links. In drama we usedimprovisation to create scenes and improvised the scenes endings, andthe drama in them. We also improvised characters for these parts, andonce we found roundthing that we liked we would call forth it throughrehearsal and write a script. In music we used improvisation to beginto create musical pieces. We created and re-created compositions untilwe could find a sound that would suit the mood we were aiming3 toachieve. In the mixed piece we had to foremost sit and discuss ouroptions and we decided to base it around a field of study. Our theme was oncircles and squares, creating a piece about the trapped ness of asingle person, using the shapes as representatives of the personsfeelings. We did hit some problems during the creations of these pieces. Indance we had a lot of people dropping out of the coarse so our groupended up as a double act. But still we managed to capture all the five
